Haven’t decided on your career yet? If so, the Holland Code is a great way to consider jobs that match your personality type and way of thinking. What’s so great about this system is that it’s simple and user-friendly, so feel free to try it yourself!
The Holland Code is a method created by psychologist John Holland to categorize individuals and careers based on six personality types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. These personality types may seem quite limiting, so it’s important to remember that everyone is a combination of 2-3 of these categories.
Below, I’ve listed the six personality types’ descriptions along with some examples of ideal careers, according to Career Key.
Realistic: Hands-on and practical. “Realistic” individuals work well as mechanics, wildlife biologists, architects, chefs, pilots, or private detectives/investigators.
Investigative: Analytical and curious, they love to solve problems and work with research. Ideal careers: scientist, psychologist, veterinarian, biochemist, or economist.
Artistic: Creative and expressive and are comfortable working with abstract ideas. Some suitable careers for this personality type are creative writer, singer, composer, director, graphic designer, actor, or multi-media artist/animator.
Social: Helpful, friendly, and trustworthy. Some ideal careers are dentist, teacher, counselor, or nurse.
Enterprising: Excel in leadership and persuasion. They could be successful as lawyers, real estate agents, sales managers, or as judges.
Conventional: Organized and detail-focused. They would be good accountants, secretaries, or bank tellers.
So, what are you waiting for? You can try a free Holland Code quiz on Personality.co to learn about some careers you may not have looked into before! The better you know yourself, the easier it is to find a career that fits you.
